Newsracks by flytedesk

Flytedesk wants to help you create more advertising opportunities for your local and national clients. Newsracks (and their broader category, “out-of-home”) are one of the fastest growing products for college media. Of the 10 publishers who earned the most revenue from flytedesk in 2022, eight of the top ten offered newsrack advertising.

The flytedesk newsrack initiative started in 2019 with the goal of bringing fresh, standard newsracks equipped with advertising space that you can monetize immediately. We have since shipped over 300 panels to student media organizations across the country, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in new revenue.

How it works

Flytedesk wants to give you free* news racks.
*Yes, there is a catch.

The indoor newsracks are approximately 24" wide by 83" tall, and super easy to assemble. They are fitted with a 22" w x 48" h advertising space, with an additional 3 smaller panels at the bottom for branding and extra advertising space.

We’ll cover 100% of the costs of manufacturing and shipping the newsracks, as well as custom-to-your-organization branding (design, production, and shipping costs) for the lower panels, in exchange for three months of ad space for free to offset the costs. You own the newsracks outright, flytedesk maintains no ownership over the racks. You can sell them to local and national advertisers, and we’ll book ads on a first-come first-served basis like any other buyer.

The only other thing that we ask for is for you to agree to sell us the racks for the prices specified below to help us keep pricing standardized for our national buyers.

Why newsracks?

Our research has shown that the “surround sound” approach to campus advertising is the most effective. So publishers who provide a standardized offering of more of our core products are less likely to be cut from plans and more likely to see ad revenue. Said another way, offering newsrack advertising space will drive more revenue to your other products like email, website, etc.

WILL THIS REALLY WORK?

Yes, in 2019, we launched our first flytedesk newsrack initiative, and it was a success. We paused the program for the pandemic, and consolidated our learnings to improve the rack design, streamline the shipping and tracking, and simplify the terms. Since then we have shipped over 300 racks to student media organizations across the country.

THE FINE PRINT

Publishers are responsible for securing locations and approvals, assembling the racks, maintaining them and keeping them clean and free of graffiti, and for changing out the artwork and arranging printing for your local buyers (we can handle printing for our national buyers.) In exchange for the racks, publishers will comp flytedesk three months of advertising on each rack. This will offset the costs of manufacturing and shipping.

PLEASE NOTE

Signing up does not guarantee you any quantity of racks. There is a limited number of supply, and we expect more signups than we have racks available. You will have the opportunity to review and agree to the final order and transfer agreement in advance.

Remember: flytedesk’s advertising policy for all ads applies here as well. If an ad doesn’t fit with your policy, you can still reject it.

Ok I'm in, what now?
